Priest Anton Filchak
was born on 17 February 1976 in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, Ukraine. After finishing the secondary school in 1993 he entered Odessa Theological Seminary. In 1996 he graduated from Odessa Theological Seminary with the recommendation to continue study at Kyiv Theological Academy.
In 2000 he graduated from full-time course at Kyiv Theological Academy with a graduate thesis on the topic Doctrine about Jesus Christ in Epistles of Saint Paul the Apostle. From 2000 to 2006 he studied at German universities in Regensburg and Eichstaett, theological faculty. In 2006 he was a scholarship holder for English course at the Language and Catechetical Institute in Gaming, Austria. In 2007 – free semester at Bonn University. From May till September 2008 – member of the Pilgrimage Department of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. September 2008 – May 2009 – staff member of the Department for External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. On 3 May 2009 Anton Filchak married Yelena Vovchenko – part-time member of the Department for External Church Relations, translator of English and German. 10 September 2009 Anton was ordained as a deacon by the bishop Anthony (Pakanich) in Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. On 3 April 2010 deacon Anton was ordained as a priest by the archbishop Pavel (Lebed) in Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. He remained a part-time member of the Department for External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
By the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church as of 24 December 2010 the priest Anton Filchak was appointed as a cleric of the Patriarchal Parishes in Canada at the disposal of Iov, bishop of Kashira.
The priest Anton Filchak together with his matushka Yelena are raising a son Kirill (born 7.01.2010).
